Our Very Big God

by Doug Bing, Washington Conference president

Did you see the news story about a very small dog that was defending a ten-year-old child from a large coyote?

A security camera captured footage of the dog yapping away and charging at the coyote during which the child was able to run away from the coyote. It was an impressive sight to see.

A similar video featured a small dog that started a bear and chased it out of the homeowner’s yard. It as also pretty impressive.

Both times it seems that the small dog didn’t focus on the obvious size and weight differences. Instead they were focused on defending their territory and driving away this very obvious threat to their owner.

In Joshua 23:10 it states:

One man of you shall chase away a thousand, for the Lord your God is He who fights for you, as He has promised.

There is no doubt many times in our lives that we can be overwhelmed with how large the challenges are in our lives.

There are times we can as a conference look at the large amount of people in our territory and wonder how we are ever going to reach all the people in our mission field here in Washington.

We can instead focus on the promise of God and not on our own smallness, our challenges, or our inabilities.  When we focus on God’s plan for the territory He has given us, the issues melt away and we can, as the Bible says, submit to God and the devil will flee from us (James 4:7).

This week as you look at the big challenges in your life, remember to focus on Jesus and not how insignificant you may feel in the face of the challenge.
