A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.
You are holding a cup of hot chocolate when someone comes along and bumps into you or shakes your arm, making you spill your drink everywhere.
Why did you spill the chocolate? "Well because someone bumped into me, of course!"
Wrong answer. You spilled the hot chocolate because that’s what was in your cup. Had there been tea in the cup, you would have spilled tea. Whatever is inside the cup is what will spill out.
Therefore, when life comes along and shakes you (which WILL happen), whatever is inside you will come out. It's easy to fake it until you get rattled.
So we have to ask ourselves... "What's in my cup?"
When life gets tough, what spills over? Joy, gratefulness, peace, and humility? Or anger, bitterness, harsh words, and reactions? You choose!
Today let's work towards filling our cups with gratitude, forgiveness, joy, words of affirmation for ourselves and kindness, gentleness, and love for others. May God help us to have MORE POSITIVITY IN OUR CUPS!
Alter Your Altar (Ideas for Family Worship)
- Reflect on the eighth phrase of the “Lord’s Prayer,” (“But deliver us from the evil one”). Ask Who, What, When, Where, Why, and How questions, and use your sharing time to focus your prayers.
- Talk about times when someone or something “bumped” you (irritated or hurt you), and talk about what “spilled” out. What was in your “cup” that day? What’s in your cup today? How do you know?
Please Pray . . .
- For deliverance for all Satan’s captives.
- For Poulsbo Adventist School.
- That God puts more of Himself in your cup.
